Embroidery Reader 2.0 Released

Version 2.0 of Embroidery Reader is now available. It adds a few features and fixes some bugs as well.
Changes from version 1.5.1:

  • Translation support – Italian, Chinese Traditional and Chinese Simplified translations have been submitted by users. (Thank you Andrea and Keetian!)
  • Transparency grid option to help stitches stand out against the background, similar to some image editors
  • A new MSI-based installer, which should have better support for all versions of Windows, including 64 bit
  • Updated to .Net 4.0, which should allow Embroidery Reader to run on Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10
  • Fixed some bugs
  • Added some other bugs (probably)

Please note: version 1.5.1 and earlier must be uninstalled before version 2.0 can be installed. I tried to find an automatic way to do this, but it became too time consuming. Please accept this link to a Microsoft help article about uninstalling programs instead. 🙂

Embroidery Reader beta with translation support

If you’re adventurous, or you like having the very latest software and don’t mind some potential rough edges, I’ve released a beta version of Embroidery Reader for testing. If no bugs are found, it will become Embroidery Reader 2.0 “fairly soon”.

This version has support for other languages via translation files. The first translation to be included is Italian, thanks to Andrea Vai. (Sorry it has taken so long to finish the translation support, Andrea!) If you like, check out Andrea’s website and say hi!
Other new things for the beta:

  • Includes a new MSI-based installer that should better support all versions of Windows, including 64 bit
  • Now requires .Net 4.0, available here if needed
  • Now has the option to show a “transparency grid” when drawing designs, to make stitches stand out better

This beta version probably has some bugs in it! I’ve tested it somewhat, but my time is limited and I only have Windows 7 computers, so I can’t test every combination that exists out in the world. If you find a bug, please report it to me via the contact page so I can try to fix it.

Embroidery Reader 1.5.1 released

I’ve released Embroidery Reader version 1.5.1 containing a single bug fix. When installed on Windows 7, previous versions may leave behind Start Menu shortcuts after they were uninstalled. This may include Windows Vista and Windows 8 as well, but I don’t have them available to test. Fixing this bug paves the way for the eventual release of version 1.6.0, which I am working on when I have time.
